Assurance Employees Mark Second Time Volunteering at Heartland Animal Shelter This Year
Schaumburg, IL (September 20, 2012) - On Thursday, September 13, Assurance for the second time this year sent a group of volunteers to Heartland Animal Shelter in Northbrook, IL. Heartland, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, is a no-kill humane shelter dedicated to promoting responsible pet ownership through education, community outreach and collaboration. With as many as 7 million animals entering shelters in America each year, Heartland works to find permanent and loving families for homeless animals.
The eager Assurance volunteers spent the day cleaning various rooms, toys, bowls and cages at Heartland. This included washing and disinfecting 40 dog cages, as well as cleaning the living area for over 100 cats. The group also had the opportunity to socialize with the various animals.
“The staff’s passion for educating volunteers on the benefits and responsibilities of pet adoption made the day that much more rewarding,” said Kerri Quigley, Account Executive at Assurance. She continued, “It was wonderful to help the shelter create a clean and welcoming environment for the animals.”
Under the motto “we can be heroes,” Assurance employees have donated over 10,500 labor hours in a 7 year span through volunteer opportunities organized by the company’s Assurance Caring Together (ACT) committee. Heartland Animal Shelter is one of 15 local organizations ACT dedicates time to each year.
