Volunteers from Assurance Assist Northwest Special Recreation Association and Young Adults Movin’ On Program

Schaumburg, IL (June 15, 2012) - On June 5, 2012, seven employees from Assurance – a Top 50 U.S. Insurance Broker located just outside of Chicago and St. Louis – assisted the Northwest Special Recreation Association (NWSRA) by volunteering to paint four rooms to be used by the Young Adults Movin’ On (YAMO) program. This program is designed to offer young, disabled adults transitioning from high school to the working world an innovative recreation experience through activities and day trips.

The YAMO program is just one of the service opportunities provided by NWSRA and its fundraising arm Special Leisure Services Foundation. Assurance employees felt fortunate to paint the rooms, as it helped keep costs focused on enhancing the program and providing an enriching experience for its participants.

“It was nice to spend time volunteering for such a great cause and seeing how appreciative the staff was for our help in bettering the facilities used for the YAMO program,” exclaimed Maggie Duggan, Account Manager at Assurance. She continued, “The NWSRA is a wonderful group who play an integral role in improving the life experiences of participants, their families and the community.”

Under the motto “we can be heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 10,500 labor hours in a seven year span through volunteer opportunities organized by the company’s Assurance Caring Together committee (ACT). Painting the YAMO program rooms was the first event planned by the committee for 2012, and served as a kick off to the more than fifteen other volunteer opportunities scheduled for this year.
