5 Reasons My CEO Makes Me a Better COO
1. He’s Balanced
Tony has great vision, the exact kind you want in your CEO. He sees the big picture, how our role adds tremendous value for our clients and how we’ll continue to transform as a company to meet client needs now and down the road. He also understands the methodical, disciplined and sometimes painstaking process on the path to get there. He’ll make bold moves, balanced with knowledge of what it takes to make his vision come true.
2. He’s Trustworthy and Trusting
He’s trustworthy and dependable; he does what he says and says what he does. He seeks input and acts on it. He’s relentless in his follow through. I know I can count on him to keep commitments. And, he’s trusting of me to take his strategic vision and organize a path to its achievement. When I make a mistake, he never questions my intent. It’s reassuring to know he trusts me, and I don’t have to waste time explaining myself.
3. He Gives Me Courage
I like the balance of having plenty of room to be creative and make big decisions, while knowing I have a partner whose opinion I greatly value and rely upon. In moments of doubt or indecision, I can get Tony’s input and confirm I’m on the right track. That gives me great courage to proceed with a plan in full confidence.
4. He Screws Up
Tony is one of the smartest, most energetic, logical, methodical and savvy people I know. And yet he screws up. He makes mistakes. He’s quick on the draw to admit it and to apologize. He keeps it simple and honest, and we simply move on. I guess that’s the trust thing coming back into play (He probably wishes I admitted and apologized a little more often and quickly back his way).
5. He’s Got my Back
Tony supports me when I need to be supported. And, he tells me when he thinks I’m on the wrong path. Both are equally important, and I trust his insights.
As executive leaders, we’re both part of the same Assurance team working toward the same big results. And because Tony’s balanced, trustworthy, trusting, giving me courage, screwing up and always got my back, I’m a better Chief Operating Officer with him on my side.
