4 Behaviors Your Leaders Should Emulate
I’ve been so blessed to have such great leaders around me at Assurance. I believe the only thing I may be truly good at is recognizing great talent and convincing them to come work at Assurance. I think I’ve done A+ work in this area, which is probably C- work everywhere else, but I’ll take it.
These great leaders, particularly my executives, have so many great strengths. When I watch and marvel at them each and every day, I’ve come to appreciate 4 great behaviors they all seem to emulate. I thought I’d take the opportunity to share these behaviors with you now.
1) They Talk Straight – One of my biggest weaknesses is tending to beat around the bush when delivering bad news or offering critical feedback. I guess my need to be liked is too high. When it comes to my leaders, one of the things I’m most proud of is their ability to tell the truth to their people and teams. They deliver this truth in a very matter of fact and transparent manner. Employees always know where they stand because they’re clear when delivering their feedback and expectations.
2) They’re Humble – My leaders get a lot of things done. What I love about them is they avoid taking direct credit for any accomplishment. They always seem to give credit to others and they never talk negatively behind people’s backs. They often downplay their own efforts and promote other people that work with them, which is an extremely awesome trait.
3) They Deliver Results – They have a track record of performance and have accomplished what they were hired to do. More importantly, they know how to set goals. The goals they set are not unachievable, nor are they easy. Also, they confront reality when things go wrong, take responsibility and reset goals based on the new reality. I’m so confident in them.
4) They Right Wrongs – These great leaders are comfortable saying sorry to people. This is so great. When mistakes are made, they’ll apologize and many times, do so in public. They never cover things up. I’m always confident they’ll do the right thing.
My leaders inspire me to do better every day, and I know I have some catching up to do on each of these behaviors. I hope you’re able to see these traits within the leaders at your company. If not, then you definitely have something to shoot for.
