Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Compliance
According to the CVSA, 2018's focus was on hours-of-service and electronic logging device (ELD) compliance. “The top reason drivers were placed out of service during 2017 International Roadcheck was for hours-of-service violations,” said CVSA President Capt. Christopher Turner of the Kansas Highway Patrol.
A lot of drivers and companies see the initiative as an inconvenience, but the program has been effective and helps to keep our roadways safe. These inspections are an opportunity for both trucking companies and drivers to get clean inspections which can ultimately lead to better Inspection Selection System (ISS) and Compliance, Safety, Accountability Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories (CSA BASIC) scores. Both ISS and BASIC scores are heavy focuses for insurance underwriters, and lowering these scores through proactive measures will lead to long-term savings in the form of lower premiums.
