My Own Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Assurance is a fast-moving place. We grow organically at a rate and consistency unparalleled by our industry peers. We continually find new methods to help our clients reduce risks in their business and better engage their employees. We increase our operating efficiencies and better leverage technology every single year. None of that happens easily or by sitting back and enjoying the ride. It takes work – lots of it. It’s like riding a roller coaster with all the thrills, chills, ups and downs.
Our team here’s not alone; I suspect most people reading this blog operate in a fast-paced world and feel that same roller coaster experience:

- Competing priorities – head spinning as the wind rushes by
- Unexpected obstacles – twists, turns, loops, and surprises along the way
So what’s so special about the roller coaster we’re on at Assurance? Well, it’s more like the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney World. If you’ve been on it, you know what I’m talking about. It’s not the fastest, the longest, or the highest – but there’s something special that makes it a favorite coaster for many (me included). We’ve tried to create that same “something special” at our company.
I think it significantly boils down to two things: being captured by a bigger story and being on the ride with people you like. Disney’s got both of those down pat. You’re not just getting on a roller coaster – you’re jumping into a sleek limo with Steven Tyler, speeding through downtown L.A. to enjoy your backstage concert passes. And who goes to Disney World with people they don’t like?
We all deserve both those things in our workplace too. A vision that creates passion and meaning for the work we do. And a culture full of people we enjoy hanging out with. Both sound easy, but take a lot of deliberate planning and years of execution to bring to life.
Assurance isn’t quite Disney World - yet. But if all else fails? We’ll just crank up Aerosmith and step on the gas.
