Shhh... I'm Hunting for Feedback
As an employer, it’s your responsibility to make decisions you feel are in the best interest of your employees. And yes, majority of the time you’re correct. Let's face it, there was a reason you spent lots of money getting your MBA and taking the time to climb the corporate ladder. But, do we always know what our employees want, or more importantly value?
When it comes to the benefit package we offer to employees, a lot of assumptions are made without actual facts. Several organizations have great cultures that breed openness and candid feedback. However, the reality is that often times we’re unable to get that information unless we ask.
When’s the last time you asked your employees what they value or what they’d like to change regarding their employee benefits program? I know what you’re thinking. Yes, this can be extremely scary, as the feedback may be a bit surprising or a little too honest. However, if you’re like most organizations out there that use benefits as a tool to attract and retain employees, you’ll want to consider taking this going down this path.
So, where do you begin? Employee surveys provide an outlet to obtain data and information that can help you structure your benefits program. The results allow you to get the most out of the money you’re already spending. You’ll discover benefits your employees aren’t using and ones they wish were available. For example, you may’ve decided to not offer a vision plan due to the cost, but find out this is a top priority for your employees that they’re willing to pay for. A win-win from every angle.
Giving your employees a voice can be powerful, as long as you’re truly listening to what they have to say! Be the one to ask the questions, but don’t forget to listen.
