Take Gold with Wellness
Most companies now-a-days have a wellness program. It's becoming an essential perk to retain and attract talent in a competitive market, while also helping companies reduce long-term health insurance costs. A wellness program can include a robust array of fitness programs, onsite flu shot clinics, free healthy snacks, tobacco cessation classes, onsite clinicians and so much more! Some companies even host a 5K, companywide softball game, Olympics or other wellness events to get everyone moving and the camaraderie flowing!
While Olympics are often considered exercise-oriented events, there are several other benefits companies can reap from hosting one. A major highlight is creating teams with individuals from different departments. It gives employees the opportunity to get to know people they don’t work with on a day-to-day basis. Although these employees may communicate with each other regularly via phone or email, they may have never personally interacted. The diverse formation of each team creates camaraderie. They exchange ideas. They create amazing costumes. They work together.
Assurance Olympics is an annual event that allows employees to use their creativity while practicing wellness at the same time. Teams are formed through random selection and choose their theme from a list. For example, in 2017 the overall theme was 80's movies. Each team is headed by a captain who organizes event participation and the team costume. The company's wellness committee puts together an agenda of different activities in which teams earn points. The event is hosted during work hours for one hour, followed by a medal ceremony featuring drinks, snacks and bragging rights.
