The Power of Movement
The simplest form of wellness is movement. This includes encouraging employees and their families to be physically active and move more throughout the day. It sounds simple, but the benefits of getting a regular amount of physical activity are astounding.
According to the American Heart Association, walking 10,000 steps a day can lead to:
- 90% reduction in incidence of heart attacks
- 30-70% reduction in rates of cancer
- 50% reduction in type 2 diabetes
If that’s not enough reason to get moving, regular physical activity can also:
- Improve your mood
- Boost energy
- Help you sleep better
- Help control your weight
The universal goal is to strive for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. What do you think the number one reason is that individuals don’t get enough physical activity? TIME! Most people don’t believe they have enough time to go to the gym.
So, I ask you to challenge your employees to go for a walk. Move a little bit more than they normally would. Experience the powerful benefits of movement, together. Show your employees you want them around for the long run. No pun intended.
