Schaumburg, Ill (May 1, 2019) –Assurance employees gathered together for the Assurance Caring Together (ACT) “roll out” event for 2019. The annual event serves as a kickoff to Assurance’s charitable initiatives and included local favorite Garrett’s Popcorn, raffle prizes and a surprise blanket activity. At the “roll out” event, ACT announced the employee-nominated charities that will be given monetary and/or labor support in 2019. It has become a staple team-building and celebratory event for all Assurance employees nationwide.
ACT is a volunteer committee of employees who coordinate Assurance’s charitable initiatives. Each year, ACT supports a number of nonprofit organizations through monetary, drive and onsite volunteer efforts.
At the event, all raffle prize donations went to a scholarship fund benefiting students at William Rainey Harper College and College of DuPage. At the beginning of each calendar year, employees are encouraged to submit a nonprofit organization of their choice to be considered as an official ACT partner for the year to come. During the “roll out” event, the 21 onsite volunteering ACT partners were revealed, as well as 34 additional nonprofit partners that will receive monetary donations from the 1% operating profit Assurance designates towards charities.
In addition to ACT’s typical monetary, drive and onsite partners, there are two premium-level partnerships with organizations that share Assurance’s culture of caring and closely align with its passion for minimizing risk and maximizing health. The premium partners for 2019 are:
- The American Heart Association – Assurance President Liz Smith served as the 2018 Go Red for Women Campaign and Luncheon Chair for Chicago.
- Special Spaces of Chicagoland – This long-time ACT partner provides dream bedroom makeovers to children with life-threatening illnesses.
Each year, Assurance employees are provided a paid day off to volunteer at a charity of their choice. Some of the 2019 events organized through ACT include: Almost Home Kids, Aspire, Casa Central, Center for Enriched Living, Children’s Home & Aid, Community Crisis Center of Elgin, Dream Riders at MCCD, DuPage Children’s Museum, Easterseals, Friends of Busse Woods, Gigi’s Playhouse, Northern Illinois Food Bank, Open Books, Operation North Pole, Random Acts of Flowers, Recovery on Water, Special Olympics Illinois, Special Spaces, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association, WINGS and Wright Way Animal Rescue.
