Schaumburg, IL (December 18, 2013) - For the fourth consecutive year, Assurance – an independent insurance brokerage with offices near Chicago and St. Louis – has been named one of Brill Street's Top 50 Gen Y Employers. Looking to negate the "boring” insurance stereotype, Assurance is all about creating a happy, yet competitive, work environment. Here, Gen Y employees are given the tools and opportunities they need to thrive.

Assurance and its Gen Y population are both rapidly growing. With over 300 employees and a second location near St. Louis, the company is set to open a third office in downtown Chicago next year. This expansion will inevitably add on to the current 35% Gen Y population at Assurance. Despite this expansion, Assurance is committed to maintaining a small company feel that's focused on community and, most of all, fun.

From regular on-site fitness classes to quarterly Casino events, happy hours and an annual Assurance Olympics competition, there's no shortage of activities to keep employees engaged and excited to be a part of the ‘A' Team. Other perks include spot bonuses, an onsite farmer's market, Employee Appreciation Day and a paid day off to volunteer every year.

Lisa Pinion, senior vice president of human resources, is proud of how nimble Assurance has remained over the years. "Whether it's an additional half-day off or surprise casual day, we do a lot of little things to remind our employees we're thinking of them,” said Pinion. "We've done everything from distributing ‘survival kits' filled with snacks and small gifts when we went through a large technology change, to hosting a gourmet grilled cheese truck at our office so employees could try something new and exciting for lunch.”

Gen Y employees at Assurance were all in agreement with the happy, easygoing nature of the company, as well as the opportunity to advance professionally at Assurance.

"We're able to take on different challenges and try new things to help us grow,” said Tony Colucci, client service representative. "They're very flexible and eager to help us reach our personal and professional goals.”

Speaking of flexibility, given Assurance's Schaumburg location, employees have the opportunity to work from home when necessary. "If people are willing to commute an hour to work, we're willing to be flexible with their schedule and accommodate their needs,” said Pinion.

The Gen Y recognition accompanies 15 other awards this year for the independent insurance brokerage.
