Schaumburg, IL (July 3, 2012) - On June 26, 2012, 16 employees from Assurance – a Top 50 U.S. Insurance Brokerage located just outside of Chicago and St. Louis – joined the Rec & Roll program for a day of outdoor adventure at St. James Farm. Administered by the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA), Rec & Roll is a therapeutic based day program committed to providing recreational activities for adults with developmental disabilities.
Assurance Caring Together (ACT) volunteers had the opportunity to assist 25 special needs participants with fishing, canoeing, archery and other outdoor games in an effort to promote social interaction and leisure independence. This is not the first time ACT has paired with WDSRA. In 2011, ACT joined the Rec & Roll program for a carnival day held at the organization's office in Carol Stream, IL.
"The Rec & Roll participants were all really fun to be with and genuinely excited to take part in fun outdoor activities,” said Jordan Walter, Client Service Representative at Assurance. He continued, "Overall, it was a great and interactive experience to share with residents in the local community.”
Under the motto we can be heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 10,500 labor hours in a seven year span through volunteer opportunities organized by the company's ACT committee. The Rec & Roll program is one of over 15 ACT events that Assurance employees have the opportunity to participate in each year.
