Schaumburg, IL (August 6, 2012) - On Thursday, July 26, Assurance sent a group of volunteers to Heartland Animal Shelter in Northbrook, IL. With as many as seven million animals entering shelters in America each year, Heartland works to find permanent and loving families for homeless animals. The no-kill humane shelter also promotes responsible pet ownership through education, community outreach and collaboration.
The high-spirited volunteers spent the day at Heartland cleaning dog cages and kennels, as well as organizing a kitchen and training hall. The group also had the opportunity to socialize with the various cats and dogs. The parents of one Assurance volunteer even adopted a cat, marking the second year in a row a pet has been adopted from Heartland during the event.
"Organizations like Heartland depend on the support of the community, so we were thrilled to be able to lend our time to such an incredible cause,” said Katyln Mathy, Client Service Representative at Assurance.
Assurance will be sending another group of volunteers to Heartland in September as part of the Assurance Caring Together (ACT) program. Under the motto "We Can Be Heroes,” Assurance employees have donated over 10,500 labor hours in a seven year span through volunteer opportunities organized by the company's ACT committee. Heartland Animal Shelter is one of 15 local organizations ACT dedicates time to each year. If you are interested in volunteering at the shelter or adopting a pet, visit www.heartlandanimalshelter.net.
