Schaumburg, IL (July 26, 2012) - On July 19, 2012, seven employees from Assurance – the second largest independent insurance brokerage in Illinois – spent the day assisting the nonprofit Little Angels in Elgin, IL, as part of its employee-sponsored Assurance Caring Together (ACT) charity program. A loving home dedicated to children and young adults with severe medical needs and disabilities, Little Angels has provided round-the-clock nursing, therapeutic and habilitation services for over 50 years.

Assurance Caring Together (ACT) volunteers helped with building and grounds improvements around the Little Angels facility, as well as participated in activities with the residents. Mulching a court yard, washing a gazebo, filing forms, cleaning event banners, scrubbing lawn furniture and priming and painting a tiki hut were just some of the ways ACT participants tried saving the organization resources and time, while enriching the facility's atmosphere. Volunteers also intermingled with the residents through games of bags and crafts.

"I was truly touched to be a part of this ACT event because Little Angels does such amazing things for the residents and their families,” said Heather Bzdusek, Claims Coordinator at Assurance. She continued, "It was an honor to give a few hours of my day to reach out and see the unconditional bond between the staff and residents.”

Under the motto "We Can Be Heroes,” Assurance employees have donated over 10,500 labor hours in a seven year span through volunteer opportunities organized by the company's ACT committee. Little Angels is one of 15 events planned for employees to participate in for 2012.
