Who:
Assurance employees volunteered with Chicagoland Special Spaces, funding and completely re-doing two bedrooms. Special Spaces is a nonprofit that creates dream bedrooms for children with life-threatening medical illnesses. They create a space where the child can dream and imagine while addressing their medical needs.

What: Assurance spent the day redoing a bedroom for Ally, a sweet 10 year old girl who loves butterflies and is battling Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). All hands were on deck as the ‘A’ Team also redid Ally’s sister Melissa’s room as well. “Once again, the ‘A’ Team showed up in full force ready to work! We’re so grateful for our partnership with Assurance,” said Andrea Schwemin at Special Spaces Chicagoland.

The complete makeover entailed:

  • Redoing two bedrooms completely
  • Assembling three Ikea dressers
  • Painting two bedrooms
  • Refurbishing three pieces of furniture with paint and upholstery
  • Adding design accents to rooms and furniture
  • Shocking Ally and her family, including her sister, with their new bedrooms!

When: Thursday, August 25, 2016

Where: Ally's Home

Why: The volunteer opportunity is one of 22 similar events scheduled for 2016 where Assurance employees donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation, Assurance Caring Together (ACT). Assurance employees have donated over 19,000 labor hours in the last eleven years through ACT.
