SCHAUMBURG, ILL. (April 23, 2018) – On Thursday, April 12, Assurance employees gathered together for the “roll out” of the 2018 Assurance Caring Together (ACT) charity partners over Auntie Anne’s soft pretzels and raffle prizes. The roll out was the kickoff to Assurance’s 2018 charitable endeavors and a fundraiser benefiting the company’s educational scholarship fund. The event was put together by this year’s ACT Committee.

ACT is a volunteer committee of employees who coordinate the company’s charitable initiatives. Each year, ACT supports a number of nonprofit organizations through monetary, drive and volunteer efforts.

At the roll out, employees vied for 26 different raffle prizes with all donations going to a scholarship fund benefiting students at William Rainey Harper College and College of DuPage. Additionally, items were collected for one of the ACT partners, Cradles to Crayons. Employees who nominated charity partners were selected to draw raffle winners. At the same time, a video displayed the 21 nonprofit organizations that will receive assistance in the form of labor hours from Assurance employees this year, as well as 19 additional nonprofit partners that will receive monetary donations from the 1% operating profit Assurance designates towards this cause.

Assurance employees will get a paid day off to volunteer with one of the following partners this year: Almost Home Kids, American Red Cross, Aspire, Chicago Special Olympics, Community Crisis Center of Elgin, Dream Riders, DuPage Children’s Museum, Easter Seals, Friends of Busse Woods, Gigi’s Playhouse, Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights, Northern Illinois Food Bank, One Tail at a Time, Open Books, Operation North Pole, Recovery on Water, Safe Humane Chicago, Special Spaces, The Morton Arboretum, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association and WINGS.

The monetary partners announced for 2018 include: Against Malaria Foundation, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Bike MS, Bridge Communities, Camp Kesem, Cancer Support Center, Charcot-Marie Tooth Association, Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, Coat Angels, GirlForward, Healing Hearts with Hooves and Hounds, Honor Flight Chicago, Inspiration Corporation, K9s for Warriors, Pillars Community Service, Project Mobility, Soaring Eagle Academy, Special Camps and Special Spaces.

In addition to ACT’s typical monetary, drive and time partners, for the first year, there are three premium-level partnerships with organizations who share Assurance’s culture of caring and closely align with their passion for minimizing risk and maximizing health.

The premium partners are:

  • The American Heart Association, an organization with whom Assurance has partnered closely with on their Workplace Wellness, Hard Hats with Heart and Go Red for Women campaigns
  • The American Red Cross, whose mission is to minimize the risk of emergencies and respond in times of crisis
  • Special Spaces of Chicagoland, an ACT time partner for several years prior, that provides dream bedroom makeovers to children with life threatening illnesses
