SCHAUMBURG, ILL. (April 18, 2017) On Thursday, April 13, Assurance employees gathered together during a catered lunch to “Step Up and ACT”. The lunch, which announced this year’s charity partners over food and raffle prizes, served a dual purpose. It was the kickoff to Assurance’s 2017 charitable endeavors and a fundraiser benefiting the company’s educational scholarship fund. The event was put together by Assurance Caring Together (ACT).
ACT is a volunteer committee of employees who coordinate the company’s charitable initiatives. Each year, ACT supports a number of nonprofit organizations through monetary and volunteer efforts.
At the Step Up and ACT lunch, employees vied for 26 different raffle prizes with all donations going to a scholarship fund benefiting students at William Rainey Harper College and College of DuPage. Additionally, over 165 toiletries and diapers were collected for the Teen Parent Connection. Last, but not least, ACT chairperson Cheryl Nolan and vice chairperson Michelle Prokup announced the 18 nonprofit organizations that will receive assistance in the form of labor hours from Assurance employees this year, as well as 39 additional nonprofit partners that will receive monetary donations from the 1% operating profit Assurance designates towards this cause.
“The Step Up and ACT event was a great way for Assurance employees to gather in support of local charities and higher education,” noted Nolan. She continued, “This event served as a kickoff to our employee volunteer opportunities for 2017, in which we hope to add onto our more than 20,000 hours of community service.”
Assurance employees will get a paid day off to volunteer with one of the following partners this year: Almost Home Kids, Anderson Animal Shelter, Aspire, Chicago Special Olympics, Community Crisis Center of Elgin, DuPage Children’s Museum, Easter Seals, Friends of Busse Woods, Gigi’s Playhouse, Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights, Northern Illinois Food Bank, One Tail at a Time, Operation North Pole, Safe Humane Chicago, Special Spaces, St. Louis Area Foodbank, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association and WINGS.
The new monetary partners announced for 2017 include: Chicago Public Library Foundation, DuPage Children’s Museum, Feral Fixers, I-Plus, Inspiration Corporation, Little Kids Rock – Chicago, NAMI DuPage, New Eyes for the Needy, OMNI Youth Services, Pillars Community Service, Teen Parent Connection, The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA), Together We Cope, TRIO Animal Foundation (TAP) and Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions.
