What: Employees spent the day preparing for the hospital’s 60th Anniversary event. ACT volunteers did everything from labeling over 4,200 cards, assembling patient brochures and tagging stuffed animals for the comfort care program to organizing clothes in the emergency room and crafting for the evening ahead. At the end of the day, the ACT volunteers got to meet the hospital therapy dog, Clarice. During the meet and greet, volunteers had the chance to learn about the hospital’s therapy dog program.

Friends of Busse Woods

Who: Friends of Busse Woods is a fully volunteer organized group in conjunction with the Forest Preserves of Cook County. Busse Woods is over 3,700 acres within the Cook County Forest Preserve System. ACT volunteers enjoyed giving back to the beautiful and fitness-friendly forest preserve where the company holds its annual accredited 5K.

What: Assurance volunteers were all hands-on deck when it came to clearing acres of buckthorn from paths and touristy areas. The plant is an invasive shrub that contributes to erosion, degrades wildlife habitats and out-competes the native plants for nutrients, light and moisture.
