Who: Assurance employees recently volunteered with Friends of the Forest Preserves at Busse Woods for the sixth year in a row. Ned Brown Forest Preserve, popularly known as Busse Woods, is a 3,700-acre unit of the Cook County Forest Preserve system in Schaumburg and Elk Grove, Illinois.

What: Assurance volunteers spent the day cutting down buckthorn and disposing it with a bonfire. Buckthorn is an invasive plant in Illinois that forms dense thickets and rapidly reproduces, overcrowding other plants and disrupting ecosystems. With the help of Assurance volunteers removing the invasive species will allow native plants and trees to thrive.
