Who: Assurance employees spent a paid Thursday from work volunteering with Special Olympics Chicago. Special Olympics is the world’s largest program for sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, inspiring greatness in more than 5 million athletes in 170 countries worldwide.
What: Assurance volunteers assisted with the softball competition which included 300 Special Olympic athletes from around the Chicagoland area. Volunteers assisted during the skills competition of fielding, throwing, hitting and running the bases by:
- Keeping score
- Coaching players
- Fielding and pitching softballs
- Facilitating stations
- Cheering on winners during the medal ceremony

Why: The volunteer opportunity is one of 21 similar events scheduled for 2018 where Assurance employees donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation, Assurance Caring Together (ACT). Assurance employees have donated over 22,000 labor hours in the last 13 years through ACT.
