Who: Assurance employees volunteered with Chicagoland Special Spaces for the third time this year, funding and completely re-doing a local child’s bedroom. Special Spaces is a nonprofit that creates dream bedrooms for children with life-threatening medical illnesses. They create a space where the child can dream and imagine while addressing their medical needs.
What: Assurance spent the day re-doing a bedroom for Ava, a young aspiring dancer who is battling a rare form of kidney cancer. The spunky 11-year-old recently appeared as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, performing a dance routine with her sister.
The complete makeover entailed:
- Transforming Ava’s bedroom from ‘little girl’ to ‘teenager’
- Assembling and painting furniture
- Reorganizing the closet and adding organizers
- Creating various décor items
Volunteers also gave mini-makeovers to her two siblings’ rooms, Austin and Emma. This consisted of painting both rooms, adding new bedding and room decorations. This recent Assurance Caring Together (ACT) event was featured on NBC 5 News. Check out the segment here.
