Schaumburg, Ill. (August 24, 2015)Assurance, a Top 50 U.S. insurance brokerage, continued its commitment to giving on August 12, 2015, when a number of employees spent their work day volunteering with Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA). This is the fifth year Assurance volunteers assisted the organization.

Since 1976, WDSRA has been providing fun, recreational opportunities to more than 4,500 individuals with disabilities. The association is a cooperative extension of nine park districts including Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Roselle, Warrenville, West Chicago, Wheaton, and Winfield.

The volunteer opportunity is one of 17 similar events scheduled for 2015 where Assurance employees donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation, Assurance Caring Together (ACT).

Over 20 Assurance volunteers started the day at WDSRA’s Carol Stream location, where they were paired with a buddy from the “Rec & Roll” day program and colored. The entire group then met up with the Glen Ellyn location and started a fun baseball game. After a hot dog lunch, the volunteers and their assigned buddies socialized and played trivia. Stories were shared over a four hour period and members of WDSRA left with a snack in hand.

“I always leave there with such admiration for the ‘Rec and Rollers,’” said Victoria Samp, account manager at Assurance. “They always have a positive attitude and remind me of what true life challenges are. WDSRA is a great organization, and I’m glad I got to be a small part of it for a day!”

Under the motto “We Can Be Heroes”, Assurance employees donated over 17,000 labor hours in a ten year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT. If you or your business would like to volunteer with WDSRA, please visit www.wdsra.com.
