(August 3, 2015) – In recognition of the momentum and growth of Assurance’s employee benefits division, Liz Smith (nee Renius) has been promoted to president at the Top 50 U.S. insurance brokerage. Her former title was president, employee benefits. In her new role, Liz will oversee the employee benefits division, while working in tandem with president Dan Klaras on organizational initiatives.
In just over seven years at Assurance, Liz transformed the company’s employee benefits practice. Her leadership on highly complex areas such as the Affordable Care Act has elevated both Liz and Assurance into a major force in the insurance community. Clients and peers look to Liz for innovative solutions to their benefits challenges, including wellness consulting, consumer-focused plan options and a new healthcare insurance captive for staffing companies.

Liz is a member of Assurance's executive management team and Board of Directors. She serves on both the Aetna National Advisory Board and Blue Cross Blue Shield Producer Advisory Council. She’s also a member of the leadership team for the Council of Employee Benefits Executives (CEBE) which is a standing committee of the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB). In addition, Liz is an active member of the Union League of Chicago, as well as the Northwestern University NClub and Northwestern University Volleyball Board.

Prior to joining Assurance, Smith served as senior vice president, practice leader of employee benefits for a national insurance brokerage. Before becoming a practice leader at Assurance, she held various roles in employee benefits including that of producer, account executive and account manager.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, she has a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. She was a member of the Northwestern Women's Volleyball team, serving as captain her junior and senior years.
Smith lives with her husband Neal and two daughters in Hinsdale, Illinois.
