Schaumburg, IL (August 28, 2014) —Continuing its innovative approach to wellness in the workplace, Assurance has taken a new route in its 5K challenge initiative this year. While Assurance has hosted its own 5K for employees over the past four years at Busse Woods in Schaumburg, this year, the insurance brokerage partnered with Active Care for its annual COLORBLAST5K in Arlington Heights benefiting local charity partner, Clearbrook.
Assurance’s dedication to promoting a healthy lifestyle is a natural extension of the insurance brokerage’s commitment to minimizing risk and maximizing health. This is the second year the company has utilized a "5K challenge" as part of their Shared Success program, which provides monetary bonuses for individual and company-wide accomplishments. Replacing outmoded walking initiatives, the 5K challenge has proven quite popular with employees. In its first year, 93 percent of employees completed an accredited 5K. This year, 119 runners representing Assurance employees and family conquered the COLORBLAST5K.
“It's no surprise that our employees have taken so strongly to our 5K challenge. At Assurance, there’s this atmosphere of community and camaraderie that is so strong it spreads to just about everything we do," said Lisa Pinion, Senior Vice President of Human Resources. "We’re very proud of how successful the campaign has been, of course, but I know it never could've come this far without the hard work and dedication of everyone involved."
In addition to conquering their 5K challenge, Assurance runners also raised over $2,300 for great cause. Through Assurance Caring Together (ACT), Assurance's employee-driven charity initiative, fifty percent of the race’s registration fees were donated to Clearbrook, a community school and service organization that educates and supports people with disabilities.
Assurance is taking their passion for maximizing health through corporate 5K challenges to the street with a forthcoming health and wellness toolkit for clients and other wellness-focused organizations. Among other things, the toolkit will include a collection of content to be used in company and industry-focused blogs, a resource library, fitness tools and a training regimen companies can use to help their employees prepare for a 5K. The toolkit is scheduled for release this fall.
