It was another giving-filled month at Assurance with four more Assurance Caring Together (ACT) inspiring experiences with Aspire, Community Crisis Center, DuPage Children’s Museum and Special Olympics of Chicago.
Who: Aspire raises awareness around inclusion for individuals with developmental disabilities, provides services to those families throughout Chicagoland and creates embracing communities.
What: Assurance employees spent the day assisting Aspire’s Career Academy, the academy helps job candidates with disabilities explore job interests, provide hands-on training in simulated workspaces, and ultimately find a rewarding and meaningful job for their students. The Assurance ‘A’ team practiced various greetings one would encounter during the interview process and helped with resume building.

Community Crisis Center
Who: The Community Crisis Center, located in Elgin, Illinois was established to be a place of safety, hope, advocacy, respite and education for those impacted by crisis or violence.
What: Assurance employees suited up for the morning with vacuums and mops to clean the entryway, stairwells, lobby baseboards and walls, dining area and numerous tables and chairs throughout the facility. After the ‘A’ Team completed the cleaning portion of the day, they stuffed welcome packets and assembled hygiene kits for residents and clients. Assurance volunteers concluded their day by helping with landscaping around the center.

DuPage Children's Museum
Who: DuPage Children’s Museum's mission is to encourage children of all ages to elevate their learning experiences in math, art, and science through integrated hands-on exploration. The museum provides exhibits, programs and special events designed to help children stimulate stronger creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills –opening doors for innovation, resilience, and strength.
What: Assurance employees began their morning with an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the museum with the DuPage Children’s Museum staff. Then, Assurance volunteers jumped right into helping the museum prepare for future events. Volunteer tasks included cutting crafting fabric, assembling name badges, organizing materials and cutting yarn for the art studio.

Who: Assurance employees spent a paid day off from work volunteering with over 200 athletes from Special Olympics Chicago at the Quest Multisport Gymnasium. The nonprofit is the world’s largest program for sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with developmental disabilities, inspiring greatness in more than 5 million athletes in 170 countries worldwide. Special Olympics Chicago is the largest region in the state of Illinois.
What: Assurance volunteers coached and timed athletes through various floor hockey skillset events. Athletes participated in speed-shooting, obstacle courses, puck races and more. Following the floor hockey competition, athletes earned awards during the coveted medal ceremony. Assurance employees had a blast cheering on athletes as they ran through the roaring, clapping-filled tunnel until they were met by more Assurance employees for their official medal placement.
