Schaumburg, Ill. (June 4, 2019) – Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 became the first school district to win the Minimizing Risk Maximizing Health (MRMH) Award on the evening of May 28 at their monthly board meeting in Plainfield, Ill. Plainfield 202 is one of 20 recipients to receive this award among the 6,000+ Assurance clients nationwide.
The MRMH Award is open to all Assurance clients that work alongside the Top 50 U.S. insurance brokerage to achieve proven results in minimizing workplace risk and maximizing the health and wellbeing of employees. Clients must meet specific conditions to qualify, including a large quantifiable reduction or improvement in a variety of key areas.
In front of nearly 40 community residents and district representatives, Assurance President Liz Smith, Senior Vice President and Practice Leader Anthony Way, Principal Bobby Dufkis, Vice President Bob Davidson and Wellness Manager Jill Micklow presented the award. District representatives accepting the award included School Board President Kevin Kirberg, Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations Rick Engstrom, Director of Administration and Personnel Jennifer Orlos, Administrative Assistant for Business and Operations Sue Peterson, Director of Fiscal Services Rose Kidd, Benefits Coordinator Dawn Bjorklund, and Administrative Assistant for Benefits Morissa Rostron. These individuals were integral in the development and execution of Plainfield 202’s risk management and wellness programs over the past two years.
Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 is the fifth largest public-school system in Illinois with roughly 3,100 full and part-time staff members. In early 2016, Plainfield 202 sought to formalize their benefits and risk management strategy. The overall goal was to increase employee participation in health and safety initiatives that would impact claims and drive down costs.
The district worked directly with Assurance on a five-year strategy but accomplished substantial results in just the first two years alone. Plainfield 202 reduced their loss ratio by 61%, improved average claim costs by 41%, increased Health Savings Account (HSA) enrollment by 550% and reduced their workers’ compensation claim frequency by 34%.
Kevin Kirberg, school board president of Plainfield 202, commented on the recognition:
When we set out to enhance participation in health and safety programs that would positively influence the lives of our employees, our team never expected accomplishing the quantifiable results we have in just two short years. Our dedicated employees were the key factor in the program’s success. We want to continue the positive momentum and look forward to sustaining a culture of safety and wellness.
