Schaumburg, IL (June 2, 2014) - Assurance, an independent insurance brokerage with offices near Chicago and St. Louis, continued its commitment to giving on May 21, 2014, when several employees spent their work day volunteering with Little City. This is the second time Assurance volunteers have assisted the organization.
Little City provides education, training, skills and encouragement that enable individuals to become their own hero. Extensive programs and services are offered to hundreds of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy and epilepsy, as well as visual, behavioral, hearing and emotional challenges. Since opening its doors in 1959, the foundation has grown from three buildings to a 56-acre main campus in Palatine, Illinois, and office headquarters in Chicago.
The volunteer opportunity is one of 18 similar events scheduled for 2014, where Assurance employees will donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation, Assurance Caring Together (ACT).
At the event, Assurance volunteers assisted with outdoor maintenance, as there are only three full-time landscapers for the 56-acre property. The group edged and mulched 20 trees, pulled up weed blocking tarps over a 40x60 ft. garden area, moved 40 large plastic garden bed walls and weeded three different areas.
“It was a beautiful day to work outdoors and help Little City accomplish some of their landscaping needs for spring,” said Dominique Kelly, Account Manager at Assurance. She continued,“The organization is very inviting and provides such wonderful resources for adults and children with disabilities.”
Under the motto “We Can Be Heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 14,500 labor hours in a nine year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT. If you or your business would like to volunteer with Little City, please visit www.littlecity.org.
