Schaumburg, IL (June 4, 2014) - Assurance, an independent insurance brokerage with offices near Chicago and St. Louis, continued its commitment to giving on May 22, 2014, when several employees spent their work day volunteering with Aspire. This is the third year Assurance volunteers assisted the organization.

With 22 locations, Aspire is one of the largest human service nonprofits in west suburban Chicago. The group assists more than 1,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities each year. Aspire helps infants and toddlers begin life with as many abilities as possible, and then encourages adults with developmental disabilities to fully participate in the community.

The volunteer opportunity is one of 18 similar events scheduled for 2014, where Assurance employees will donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation, Assurance Caring Together (ACT).

At the event, Assurance volunteers taped and painted the living room, hallway, bathroom and bedroom for a community home that houses five Aspire residents. The group also put together a raised flower bed and garden in the backyard of the home.

“I thought the experience was very rewarding; I would do it again in a heartbeat,” said Lori Porter, Certificate Tracking Specialist at Assurance. Samuel Davidson, Integration Development Specialist at Assurance, chimed in, “Even though it was a small group, we were able to do quite a bit of work to help make the house more warm and inviting for Aspire residents.”

Under the motto “We Can Be Heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 14,500 labor hours in a nine year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT. If you or your business would like to volunteer with Aspire, please visit www.aspireofillinois.org.
