Schaumburg, Ill. (October 19, 2014) – Assurance, an award-winning independent insurance brokerage, continued its commitment to giving on September 24, 2014, when a number of employees spent their work day volunteering with Friends of Busse Woods. This is the third year Assurance volunteers have assisted the organization.
Located in northwestern Cook County, Busse Woods is a 3,700 acre National Natural Landmark and one of the most frequently visited parks in the state of Illinois. Assurance worked in tandem with Friends of Busse Woods, a regional stewardship group that promotes and supports restoration activities.
The volunteer opportunity is one of 18 similar events scheduled for 2014, where Assurance employees donate their time to deserving nonprofit organizations. All volunteer days are organized by the company’s employee-driven charitable foundation Assurance Caring Together (ACT).
Assurance volunteers cleared buckthorn and participated in teambuilding activities in the morning. After lunch, the group collected seeds that the next wave of Assurance volunteers will spread in the cleared area. Overall, the group cut down 30 large buckthorn trees, as well as many smaller plants that were put into a fire. By cutting down the buckthorn, the natural habitat at Busse Woods will remained unthreatened.
“I love this event and seeing the tangible impact we’ve made at the end of the day,” said Kerri Quigley, Vice President at Assurance. Jamie Moshinsky, a Client Service Representative, added: “It’s also a really great event for teamwork and getting to know employees that you may not interact with regularly.”
Under the motto “We Can Be Heroes”, Assurance employees have donated over 14,500 labor hours in a nine year span through volunteer opportunities organized by ACT. If you or your business would like to volunteer with Friends of Busse Woods, please visit www.bussewoods.net.
