  Special Spaces

Who: Special Spaces is a nonprofit organization that creates dream bedrooms for children with life-threatening illnesses. The organization, with the help of volunteers like Assurance, helps design spaces where children can dream and imagine while addressing their medical needs.

What: On December 13th the Assurance ‘A’ Team became interior designers for a day and made dreams come true for Special Spaces hero, Will. Will’s new bedroom will become a place for a fresh start and a place for him to come home to for the holidays and during his frequent doctor visits from New York. Assurance employees painted Will’s room, assembled shelves, desks, a loft bed, a nightstand, desk chairs, and the ultimate gaming chair. After assembling and painting was complete, the ‘A’ Team hung shelves and created décor for the walls. Will’s bedroom has become a special bedroom for resting, playing video games and reading.

Operation North Pole

Who: Operation North Pole is a volunteer-based organization whose mission is to work with Chicago’s major children’s hospitals to provide a fantasy trip to the North Pole for families who have a child affected by a life-threatening illness. Arriving by holiday train, the children experienced an imitation skating rink, candy land, and Santa’s village. The children met Santa at his infamous workshop, and each child receives $300 worth of gifts.

What: Assurance employees helped take down all of the decorations after the event. The ‘A’ Team deconstructed over 27,500 sq. ft. of space, tore down 196 Christmas trees and packed several containers full of fake snow, floor to ceiling curtains, and various decorations. The efforts cut in half what it would normally take to tear down the event.
