Schaumburg, Ill. (Nov. 11, 2016) — Assurance, an award-winning independent brokerage, received a first place ranking on the Chicago Tribune 2016 Top Workplaces List for mid-sized employers. The list is based solely on results of an employee feedback survey administered by WorkplaceDynamics, LLC, a leading research firm that specializes in organizational health and workplace improvement. This is the second #1 ranking bestowed on Assurance from the Chicago Tribune. The first one was in 2014.

So how did Assurance 'Push It' (more on that later) to number one again?

“It really boils down to the people. I know it sounds contrite, but we hire the best people; we train them; we empower them; we give them all the tools and resources; then we let them run loose to really drive our culture,” explained Jackie Gould, Assurance’s chief operating officer.

And drive they do. Over 90 percent of Assurance’s workforce takes a paid day off to volunteer at a charity recommended by the company’s employee-run Assurance Caring Together committee. They also actively work together to achieve quarterly and yearly goals, such as participating in a business book club and accumulating points in the corporate wellness program.

Appreciation runs high amongst employees. The CEO calls each employee on their birthday and anniversary. And yes, that means over 850 calls a year. Employees send virtual high-fives to recognize a co-worker for going above and beyond in their work. There are even cards around the office where employees will write a personalized message the old-fashioned way.

To infuse fun and tie company goals together, an annual theme is set. And you guessed it. This year’s theme is ‘Push It’ by Salt-N-Pepa.

More of Assurance’s top perks can be found in the careers section of The Chicago Tribune. Jackie Gould, chief marketing officer Steven Handmaker and senior vice president of human resources Michele McDermott accepted the award on November 10 at Soldier Field.
